Mouse cell lines have been used extensively as in vitro models for biomedical research. The scientific community has developed robust methods to authenticate human cell lines;however, the issue of misidentification of mouse cell lines has been ignored due to the dearth of validated methods. We carried out short tandem repeat (STR) assay that targets eight loci of mouse genome, exploiting DNA polymorphism to authenticate repository mouse cell lines.
