Introduction: Muscle disuse,which induced by prolonged space flight and bed rest,leads to severe atrophy and a slow-to-fast myofiber-type tranasition mainly in soleus muscle.It is demonstrated that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α(PGC-1α),which can promote the development of oxidative myofibers,has the ability to protect muscle from dysfunction.
