Today, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) has been routinely used as a most effective treatment procedure for severe male factor infertility. In routine ICSI, a single motile sperm is subjectively selected by a scientist and it still can be difficult to select a most competent sperm from general motile population, particularly those patients with severe sperm defects and high sperm DNA damage. Thus about 5-10% ICSI patients still have persistently poor outcomes.
