Nickel (Ni) is probably an essential element for life; however, its metabolic or physiological functions in plants and animals are largely unknown. The ribonucleases (RNase, e.g., RNase A) are a superfamily of hydrolases found in one form or another in all organisms, with many forms facilitating N-cycling.It is currently unknown how either a deficiency or an excess of Ni influences ribonucleases, like RNase A.
