Western Medicine actively promotes pharmaceutical or surgical treatment of cardiovascular disease.Very little attention has been paid to prevention. It has become increasingly clear that lifestyle factors play a major role in provoking the development of cardiovascular diseases. These include poor diet, high caloric intake, inactivity, smoking and stress. The global impact of the cardiovascular epidemic and the rising costs to treat these diseases has stimulated a serious interest in preventing these conditions.Prudent plant based diets, maintenance of optimal body weight, regular low impact exercise, cessation of smoking, yoga and meditation and the development of a healthy psychosocial support system are low cost lifestyle interventions. They have objectively shown to prevent development, stop progression and even reverse established cardiovascular disease.
