In the past 30 years, there have been fewer rail accidents in the United States and California. This is largely due to the closure of a large number of level crossing and the deployment of a wide range of response measures, including signaling systems, gating and fractionation procedures. However, the number of car accidents and the corresponding number of injuries and deaths remain unacceptably high. The railroad crossing offers different levels of warning, from four-quadrant gates to stop signs. In order to understand how California is making the best use of state and federal funding through the Federal Transit Act to make the nation’s 7719 railroad crossing safer, the report analyzes the effectiveness of different types of railroad crossing warning devices, And conducted a cost-benefit comparison.
