Specific chromosomal translocations play an important role in human tumorigenesis. The authors observed two cases of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) patients whose leukemia cells contained a translocation between the short arm of chromosome 11 (11P13) and the long arm of chromosome 14 (14q13). The leukemic cells were hybridized with mouse L-cells lacking thymidine kinase, and karyotype analysis was performed on somatic hybrid clones by trypsin treatment and Giemsa staining to detect translocation chromosomes (11P~ + and 14~-q), while also extracting from hybrid cells cloned by passage
