Examined on the human body, skull or model, there are no anatomical entities available to describe the (occlusal) plane. In 1962, Nagle and Sears proposed that the “occlusal plane” is merely used as a term for discussion and it occupies a reference hypothetical position. "There is very little agreement on the positioning of the occlusal plane. There are various definitions of the occlusal surface of a natural tooth: 1. The imaginary plane connecting the incisor or canine crest and the distal cheek tip of the second molar (Thomas 1975). 2. Hypothetical surface connecting cusp crest and posterior cusp face (Ramfjord and Ash 1966). 3. Divide the imaginary plane of the molar and the occlusal (Graber 1966). 4 from the near incision on the maxillary incisors to maxillary first molar near the palate tip false
