1997年12月2日,在意大利那不勒斯召开的联合国教科文组织世界遗产委员会第21届会议上,传来一个振奋人心的消息:位于太原以南90多公里的平遥古城,成为中国第一家进入《世界遗产目录》的城市。“平遥古城是中国汉民族城市在明清时期的杰出范例,平遥古城保存了其所有特征,而且在中国历史的发展中为人类展开了一幅非同寻常的文化、社会及宗教发展的完整画卷……”这是联合国教科文组织世界遗产委员会主席团的报告对平遥的评价。
On December 2, 1997, at the 21st session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Naples, Italy, there came an exciting news: the ancient city of Pingyao, located more than 90 kilometers south of Taiyuan, became the first country to enter China City of the World Heritage List. “The ancient city of Pingyao is an excellent example of the Han Chinese cities during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The ancient city of Pingyao preserved all its features. It also opened an extraordinary picture of the development of culture, society and religion for the human race in the development of Chinese history. ... ”This is a Pingyao evaluation from the report of the Bureau of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
