A new laser pointer and range finder may be mounted on an armored vehicle or on a tripod of the US Army Fire Support Force. Hughes Ground Car Laser Positioning Indicator (G / VLLD) Directs an invisible beam encoding a laser pulse to the target. The return pulse can be detected by a dedicated sensor on board an aircraft or on a laser seeker or the target can be measured with this pulse. Since 1977, engineering prototypes have been used to test laser-guided weapons. One of the devices was operated at the pulse repetition frequency normally applicable to laser-guided weapons and used more than 15,600 times without any faults.
