On November 20, 2004, a Xinhua news agency said that Japan’s Ministry of Health held a seminar on the 19th to discuss the issue of the name of “dementia.” It is said that more than half of Japanese nationals think that the term “dementia” has “meaning of contempt ”. To this end, the Ministry of Health put forward six new names for comments, after some discussion, the final decision to use “cognitive disease ” to replace “dementia ”. As can be seen from this news, this name change apparently is not out of medical considerations, but more out of ethical considerations, it is carefully to protect human dignity.
