自《读书》杂志93年9月号发表了《欧美人心目中的非我族类》一文(作者张宽)之后,“后殖民”、“后殖民主义”、“后殖民批评”就成了中国文化界讨论和争论的热门话题。究其原因是这个话题深深地触及到了我们的历史、我们所处的时代特征、生存境况、以及我们作为一个中国人的民族意识。本文的目的仅在于为讨论美术中的后殖民问题提供一些学术背景材料。 “后殖民”(postcolonial)是相对“殖民”而言的。在这里,“后”(post)不仅指时间、历史的后,更重要的是“后殖民”时代在意义、方法、形态上与殖民时期的差异和对立。在殖民主义时期,西方列强对非西方世界殖民扩张的主要方式是血腥屠杀殖民地的反抗者、疯狂掠夺殖民地的人力、物力、财力、文化等资源、强占殖民地的领土和国家主权以满足西方资本主义社会资本冲动的需要。与
