Corn streak disease occurs in the low-lying moist tropical and subtropical regions of the world. It is a major disease in severe maize disease in South Florida. Several symptoms of corn streak disease are similar to those caused by other corn pathogens. Someone tried to find the pathogen, but failed. The reported results vary depending on the nature of the pathogenic maize stripe virus (MStpV). Storey first described the disease in East Africa, arguing that there are two types of symptoms, the wide and narrow stripes on corn leaves. Kulkarani considers both symptoms to be different diseases, leaving the name of corn streak disease to the wide stripe type. Both disease pathogens are transmitted by Pereg-rinus maidis.
