The tetravalent spectrum is a strong oxidant and is unstable in aqueous solutions but is stable when complexing agents are present. The authors obtained Pr (IV) by ozone oxidation in alkaline solution of sodium hexametaphosphate, The absorption spectrum shows that there is Pr (Ⅳ), which has the absorption band with the maximum absorption at 320nm. Experiments show that the oxidation of Pr (Ⅲ) can be promoted by the presence of cerium. The reduction kinetics of Pr (Ⅳ) was studied and it was found that the reduction of Pr (Ⅳ) in solution was a quasi - first order reaction with a rate constant k = 0.38 h -1.
