“Boudoir Lament” is regarded as a distinctive subgenre of classical Chinese poetry.This essay argues that some of Dickinson’s poems are replete with the sensibility characteristic of “Boudoir Lament” poetry.The “Boudoir Lament” resonance of her poetry,along with her seclusion and love story,activate Chinese readers’ cultural memory to re-imagine her and re-mold her image with the Chinese flavor.Rewriting Dickinson in the way of “Boudoir Lament” is interwoven with the contemporary reconfirmation and reexamination of this emotional pattern.
