《你耳朵里面的是条鱼吗?》(Is That a Fish in Your Ear?)是美国普林斯顿大学“翻译与跨文化研究中心”主任戴维·贝娄斯2011年出版的翻译研究力作,问世之后,在欧美学界引起广泛的关注。为了更好地与中国学者展开对话,作者专门针对中国语境对这部专著进行了修订,已交由企鹅集团于今年九月在中国推出。笔者在本文中尝试对这部专著的特点进行概括、总结,认为这是一部高水平的翻译研究专著,非常值得一读。该专著一共汇集了34篇文章,从学科门类来说,翻译学、人类学、语言学、文学、词典学、文化学、跨文化交际等等各有涉猎、涵盖甚广;就涉及内容而言,除了文学翻译之外,还涉及到其他类型的翻译——新闻翻译、法律翻译、机器翻译、口译、同传、圣经翻译、幽默的翻译等等;作者的叙述风格非常风趣、幽默,同时又展现出少有的批评精神,对翻译界的一些观念进行了质疑和批评,对翻译,尤其是文学翻译,提出了自己的独到见解,给人以不小的启发。
