Based on the analysis of the Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory at Columbia University and some seismologists and crustal-structure physicists at the California Institute of Technology’s seismic laboratory, there is an urgent need to conduct a broad study of the San Andres Fault System in southern California. Although controversy is surrounding the possible earthquake that may occur next to the San Andreas Fault, Lottery, CB Raleigh, K. Sieh, LRSykes and Anderson DLAnderson) said in the report, “... it is conceivable that the entire fault in southern California will rupture immediately.”
