This article reviews the literature on hyper-additive color development, and compares it with super-additive in black-and-white development. In general, superadditive in color developing solutions can also be explained by the theory of regeneration of the developer in a black-and-white developing solution. However, there are some basic differences between them that cause some doubt about this interpretation. The main differences are: 1. When no silver halide is present, Phoenitrite promotes the oxidation of the color developing agent without promoting hydroquinone oxidation. The development of p-phenylenediamine induction period is short, while the hydroquinone induction period is long. 3. P-phenylenediamine adsorption capacity of silver is far greater than hydroquinone. 4. The redox potential of p-phenylenediamine is much higher than that of phenidone or metol and the hydroquinone potential is on the same order of magnitude as phenidone or metol. 5. The color developing activity and coupler. This article discusses these points in detail.
