Geo-tourism uses existing geological resources to develop sustainable tourist attractions in a completely new way. It is extremely difficult for Hong Kong to attract tourists because of its small population. About 30% of Hong Kong’s land is covered by granite, half of which is under the city. The rest have quite attractive geological landscapes and great potential for the development of geological tourism. In addition to attracting visitors to the geology and ecology, it is easier to popularize geosciences while developing geological tourism in the granite area, while enhancing the public’s ability to appreciate geology and geomorphology and raise awareness of environmental protection and geological protection. However, there are also many difficulties encountered in the development of geological tourism in the granite area of Hong Kong, mainly due to the problems of planning, administration and safety. Among them, the government, local people and geo-tourism workers are required to work together to find the best solution.
