F · W · Lancaster, Professor of Information Science and Library Science, University of Illinois, the United States, quite good, many awards. The Library and Librarian in the Electronic Age was published in 1972 and printed for the second time in 1974. The book predicts the future of the library and argues that by the year 2000 humankind will enter a paperless society and libraries will eventually die out, with librarians active as informatics technologists in the future electronic age. The purpose of the author is to inspire librarians to build confidence in the future, to appraise the role of libraries and librarians in the rapid social change and technological revolution, to adapt to the new situation, catch up with the trend of the times and promote social development. Here is a shortened version of the book, readers can learn about Lancaster’s point of view.
