The Xujiayao Formation is considered to be the strata unit of the Nihewan Layer that extended into the Late Pleistocene. The archaeological excavations of the Xujiayao Cultural Relics discovered that cultural relics were located in the Nihewan Formation and were named after the Late Pleistocene. A stratum unit has aroused widespread doubts since it was named. In particular, the gap between the age and paleomagnetic dating results is enormous, reaching hundreds of thousands of years. The latest archaeological excavations show that the cultural relics of the site did not originate from the previously identified Nihewan Formation, but were formed in the subsequent river terraces. Therefore, we can not prove that the Xujiayao Formation has survived to the late Pleistocene with the age of Xujiayao Cultural Relics. Xujiayao Group has lost the basis and significance of its existence and proposed the abolition of this unit.
