密尔的幸福概念由于具备具体性、多样性、复合性、目的性和等级性特征,克服了边沁以快乐作为功利(幸福)概念内涵的唯一构成成分所导致的功利概念的单一性、抽象性和功利计算困难的缺陷,使得功利原则所遭受的很多指责可以从根本上得以消解掉,因此,密尔的幸福概念对于功利原则合理性的辩护具有重要的价值。然而,密尔的幸福概念仍然是一个不明确的概念,难以成为人们行动的具体而明确的标准,因而对于规范人的行为没有太大的意义。 Because of its specificness, diversity, complexness, purpose and hierarchical features, Mill’s concept of happiness overcomes the unity of the utilitarian concept caused by Bentham’s happiness as the only component of the concept of utilitarianism (happiness) Therefore, the concept of happiness in Mill is of great value to the defense of the rationality of utilitarian principle. However, Mill’s concept of happiness is still an ambiguous concept that can hardly be a concrete and definite standard for people’s actions. Therefore, there is not much significance in regulating human behavior.
