秦腔的彩腔,是与作为基本板式的本腔相对而言的。每当剧中人物感情发展到一定高潮,或者有特殊意境的需要而用本腔又难以更充分地表述时,总是用彩腔来应功。彩腔是浓化、美化秦腔唱腔的重要手段,是编织、镶嵌在板式唱词中或依附在语词上的一种非常别致而富有情趣的拖腔艺术。山两梆子称为“腔儿”,蒲剧称为“花花腔”,同州梆子、阿宫、秦腔等均称为“彩腔”。这种腔必须用假声来演唱,所以有的剧种称为“小嗓”、“假嗓”或“边音”,也有称为“冒调”的,一般人则称为“拉二音”或“二音子”。
