Last year, I had the privilege of attending a Chinese language class at Yucai Middle School in Shanghai and saw with my own eyes the teaching forms of “reading, discussing, speaking, and practicing”. It was refreshing. This kind of “teahouse”-style teaching method with leadership has indeed motivated students to learn Chinese. After returning to school, I conveyed the experience of teaching reform in Yucai Middle School. Language teachers were very impressed. However, many people believe that this kind of experience is only applicable to big cities and it is difficult to take root in our remote island. The reason is that the fishermen and peasants have little knowledge, and the class “meeting” does not rise; even if the “meetings” get up, it is bound to go unchecked. It is difficult for the teachers to control the situation and affect the teaching progress. The result is counter-productive and not as good as the teacher. Can rural middle school learn the educational experience of Yucai?
