激光唱机是色盲,它们只能识别红皮书——十年以前的音频光盘标准,但是今天的CD—ROM光盘要求唱机具备更强的识别能力,因为这些光盘包括有黄皮书多媒体计算机数据。CD—ROM光盘常采用混合模式将这些数据置于第一轨道上,要使PC机对光盘上计算机数据的出现马上做出反应,就必须放在这个位置。可是,激光唱机却不能识别黄皮书数据,并且试图按红皮书标准来播放。结果,就产生了没人愿听的“音乐”:恼人的白噪音(white noise)。如果播放时间比较长的话,可能损害扬声器,更不必说对耳膜的刺激。这就是众所周知的第一轨道问题。
CD players are color-blind, they only recognize the Red Book - the standard audio disc ten years ago, but today’s CD-ROMs require jukeboxes with greater recognition because these discs include Yellow Book multimedia computer data. CD-ROM discs often use mixed mode to put these data in the first track, and PC machines must respond immediately to the presence of computer data on the disc. However, the CD player does not recognize yellow book data and attempts to play it by the standard Redbook. As a result, there was “music” nobody would listen to: annoying white noise. Longer speakers may damage the speakers, let alone stimulate the eardrums. This is the well-known first orbital issue.
