This article uses the theory of politeness to examine the existence of Daoist language and the politeness tactics used by college students when they use Daoist language from the perspective of contrast between China and Japan. As for the presence or absence of the Daoist language, Chinese college students are entirely inclined to take a positive look in the rewarding goodwill scene. Japanese college students, to a certain degree, also take negative aspects into account. Regarding politeness strategies, Japanese college students tend to use negative politeness strategies toward older adults in good-faith scenes (Scene 1 and Scene 2), while Chinese college students tend to use positive politeness strategies toward seniors to a certain extent.
