京剧的历史到底有多长,这还是一个有争论的问题。有说150年的,有说100年的,研究者说法不一,各有论据,一时难以定论。但不管哪一种说法,有一点是无可争议的,就是都要把京剧在中华人民共和国成立岳的这40余年的历史包括在内。40年虽然是一个不算大的数字,但在京剧的历史上却占有不小的比重。在这段时间里,京剧艺术经历了重要的变化发展。如果说,在这40年前,经过历代艺人艰辛的创造,京剧在艺术上,特别是在音乐上(演唱艺术、伴奏艺术)达到了一个时代的高峰,成为中国戏曲的典范,并为后世戏曲的发展奠定了深厚的传统基础。那么,这40年来京剧艺术的发展却出现了一些新的现象,提供了一些前人所未曾提供的东西。这一点,是我们在研究京剧的历史或现状时所不能不注意到的。

This point is what we can not fail to notice when studying the history or current situation of Beijing Opera.
