Chlorinated pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC) is an excellently selective oxidant for the oxidation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds, which was synthesized in 1899. However, this reagent was not paid more and more attention until after it was successfully used in organic synthesis by Corey et al. For the first time in 1975.
