集(宁)通(辽)铁路是铁道部和内蒙古自治区人民政府根据“共同投资、共享盈亏、共担风险、共同管理”的原则兴建的合资铁路;它西起集二线的贲红站,东至通霍线的通辽北站,横穿内蒙古腹地,途经四盟(市)、十三个旗(县、市),正线全长943公里,是目前全国最长的合资铁路。该线自1995年12月1日正式纳入路网运营以来,运输生产和经济效益逐年提高。1996年完成货运量504万吨,实现运输收入3.8亿元,取得了运营第一年即有盈余的良好开端。1997年再上新台阶,全年共完成货运量731万吨,实现运输收入5.3亿元,在确保按期偿还到期世行债务1.2亿元外,实现利润6953万元,与目前国铁的经营状况形成了鲜明对比。
