应《城市规划学刊》编辑部访谈作往事“三如”。1规划起家,如烹小鲜1944年,我考进在重庆的上海交通大学土木系。1947年秋选读土木系市政组,主任为杨钦,副主任谢光华,分别是给水工程和排水工程专家。与其他专业组(结构、铁路、公路、水利)不同的专业课,应是杨银谬的建筑艺术学和叶家俊的都市计划学,均为二个学分的小门课程。都市计划读的(教材)是City Planning,是龙门书局翻印的,距今65年,已忘记其作者名。叶家俊教授留学美国,返国后曾任广州到九龙段铁路局局长。叶教授讲课时,从不照本宣读,爱讲留学轶事。都市计划课印象较深的,是土地使用规划和邻里单位(neighborhood unit)。这是1920年代美国采用的一个概念,即社会结构的最基本单元,是为邻里单元,以小学为中心,使小学儿童能在大人陪同下,步行上下学(步行距离在800m左右)。在当时感到颇为新颖,因此记忆及今。2陈毅市长批准《大上海都市计划总图草案三稿》可以留存参考,如春雨沐地,培根助果,使城市规划根深叶茂,结成丰硕成果1945年抗战胜利后,时任上海市工务局局长赵祖康积极筹建上海市都市计划委员会,编制大上海都市计划。1940年代,很多国家都在努力编制城市规划,著名的如大伦敦规划和鹿特丹的重建规划,标志着二战后城
