Infrared spectra of nails in 8 normal subjects and 4 cancer patients were measured by SLR ATR. The differences between nails bands in normal and cancer patients were compared using cluster analysis and t-test as well as principal component analysis. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the nails and normal samples of patients with breast cancer with shorter duration of illness. However, there was no significant difference between fingernails and normal samples of patients with breast cancer who had longer disease and those with 1-2 years of age The difference is more obvious. FTIR spectroscopy directly through the nail to diagnose cancer patients may have some difficulties.
