Since the emergence of “Dream of the Red Chamber” two hundred years ago, many intellectuals have evaluated the value of “Dream of the Red Chamber” with their own perspectives, leaving many classic discourses. Among them, the most concise, classic, but also my personal favorite comment from the famous poet in the late Qing Dynasty, who was the comment of Huang Zunxian, a Japanese cultural counselor. In his written conversation with Japanese sinologists, Mr. Huang wrote: “Dream of Red Mansions” is the first good novel since ancient times and today, and won glory with the sun and the moon. Hate the Quintessence do not pass Chinese, can not do their best too. Huang Zunxian’s remark not only gives a highly concise evaluation of the status of “Dream of Red Mansions” in the history of Chinese literature, but also points out a major problem in the reading and dissemination of “Dream of Red Mansions” that is not familiar with Chinese language and difficult to understand profoundly The implied beauty of “Dream of Red Mansions”.
