In November 1996, a major change took place at the SGML World Congress in Boston: Delegates unanimously agreed to end the current HTML writing standard HTML on the Internet, replacing it with the latest electronic document formatting common standard - Extensible Markup Language (XML) Language. According to the predictions of US e-commerce experts, XML can improve the traditional web design language HTML description, the future will replace HTML as a new generation of web markup language, this change will revolutionize the web-based e-commerce application type. With the scalability and slef-descriptive nature of XML, Web documents can be automatically transferred, processed and stored in an enterprise-wide application. E-merchandise from different vendors can be displayed simultaneously on the same user interface, Information search becomes more accurate and faster, and different systems can communicate smoothly, and SMEs can easily enjoy the benefits of EDI.
