Pragmatic vagueness is a common phenomenon in verbal communication. Furthermore, it is an important strat- egy widely used in diplomatic language. This thesis explores the pragmatic vagueness by analyzing diplomatic English. Employing pragmatic vagueness in diplomatic language can help a diplomat to gain foremost national interest and win honor for his/her motherland.
