Earth orbit satellites provide valuable gravity and geomagnetic data for large-scale crustal features. One of our interests at the Goddard Space Flight Center is to study the connection between the magnetic data obtained from polar orbiting geophysical and satellite satellites and the large number of crustal features described by other ground and aerospace geophysical methods. As part of this endeavor, we have assembled the results of deep seismic refraction tests in the United States and mapped them into a general map of crustal thickness and upper mantle velocity (P_n). And then use the same refractive detection data to try to draw the basement or the lower crust thickness map.
