“天下三分明月夜,二分无赖是扬州”。远在唐代,扬州城便已十分繁华。地处长江与运河交汇之处的扬州是南北漕运枢纽,水陆交通的便利带来商业经济的活跃,特别是两淮盐业到清代时尤为兴盛,使得扬州这座名城更加兴旺。清代帝王多次南巡,地方官绅热心艺文,富商巨贾博雅好古,一时文人士大夫闻风而趋,有“海内名士,半在淮扬”之说,扬州书画艺术随之昌盛不绝,并以清代中期时兴起的“扬州八怪”为鼎盛。文人画自唐宋肇始,至晚明时已从物象和心象的表达,进入 “One-third of the world moon and stars, the second rogue is Yangzhou ”.
