在西漢時期交趾設郡之後,其下轄縣名的沿用和變更,成爲觀察當地社會華夏化進程的重要線索。《漢書·地理志下》記載,交趾郡轄縣十:羸、安定、苟屚、麊泠、曲昜、北帶、稽徐、西于、龍編、朱。另九真郡轄縣七:胥浦、居風、都龐、餘發、咸驩、無切、無編。其中除“安定”縣屬“錫以嘉名”外,其他縣名顯然都是當地土語的音譯。據《續漢書·郡國志五》記載,後漢時期的交趾郡下轄十二縣,分別爲:龍編、羸、安定、苟漏、麊泠、曲陽、北帶、稽徐、西于、朱、封谿、望海。與西漢
