Objective To analyze the radiation protection situation of medical institutions in a certain area of Nanjing and provide the basis for improving the radiological protection of medical institutions. Methods A survey was conducted on the radiation protection of 60 medical institutions in a certain area of Nanjing City and 98 staff members engaged in radiological diagnosis and treatment work. Results Of 60 medical institutions, 35 were for-profit institutions and 25 were non-profit institutions. All medical institutions were equipped with the protective equipment for subjects and posted the ionizing radiation warning signs in a conspicuous place. 60.00% of profit-making institutions posted The notification of harm to ionizing radiation was 88.00% less than that of non-profit institutions (P <0.05). The individual dose, health care and training rate of profit-making medical institutions were 67.35%, 67.35% and 57.14% respectively, Were lower than 95.92%, 95.92% and 95.92% (P <0.05) of non-profit medical institutions respectively. Of the 98 radiological workers, 94.90% received training in radiation knowledge and 98.98% were required to wear personal dose components (TLDs). The rate of medical examination before and during their posts was 80.00% and 100.00% And 0.00% for non-profit medical institutions and 100.00%, 100.00% and 0.00% for non-profit medical institutions respectively. Conclusion The radiation health protection in the medical institutions in this area is generally good, but the file management is not standardized and the rate of medical examination before leaving the workforce needs to be improved.
