某些β二酮类合钴(Ⅱ)络合物在溶液中具有可逆络合氧分子的能力.中心离子钴(Ⅱ)的电子转移到氧的π轨道,伴随发生钴(Ⅱ)的直接氧化.利用该类络合物中心离子钴(Ⅱ)的可逆氧化还原特性作为高效高选择性催化剂和生物摸拟氧载体已有报导.但钴(Ⅱ)的氧化特性在湿法冶金萃取钴的过程中应尽量设法避免,因为生成了稳定的钴(Ⅲ)络合物后,会给反萃操作带来极大困难,使萃取剂不能循环使用.
