OBJECTIVE: To study the expression of nerve growth factor (NGF) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in human glioma and to explore their relationship with the pathological grade of glioma and its role in evaluating the prognosis of patients with glioma. Methods: The expression of NGF and PCNA in 10 cases of normal brain tissue and 64 cases of gliomas were detected by SP immunohistochemistry. The difference between normal brain tissue and different grades of gliomas was analyzed. Results: The expression of NGF and PCNA were significantly different between normal brain tissue and glioma, as well as between high-grade glioma group and low-grade glioma group (P <0.05), and with the tumor pathological grade (P <0.05). The correlation analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between the two expression levels. Conclusion: NGF and PCNA may play an important role in the development and progression of glioma. The expression level of NGF and PCNA is closely related to the malignant degree and prognosis of gliomas.
