The design of structures by using their limiting states as a basis has become a widespread tendency. Certain problems in structural analysis are closely related to the development of limit design. In this paper, the present status of these problems is described and some opinion concerning their future development is given. The field surveyed includes statistical analysis of tile factor of safety, strength and deformation of structures, stability of structures, the effect of time on stresses and deformations, and the strength and deformation of soils.
