Opteron处理器刚刚问世的时候,就以32/64位兼容的方式获得了业界的普遍关注。尽管去年4月Opteron处理器发布时仅有IBM一家全球性服务器供应商提供基于Opteron处理器的服务器产品,但经过半年时间的发展,Opteron处理器的出货量令人欣喜:根据IDC的报告,去年第三季度,基于Opteron处理器的服务器月出货量已经达到了1万多套,并且基于Opteron处理器的服务器销售数量还在不断上涨。这个数据说明了Opteron处理器已经被用户逐渐接受,32/64位系统平滑过渡的方案已经获得了相当一部分消费者的认可。而在中国市场上,四大国产服务器厂商之一的曙光公司也迅速推出了基于Opteron处理器的服务器,基于Opteron处理器的高性能计算集群还被作为国家网格项目的主节点。看到市场反响热烈,原本就跟AMD关系不错的Sun公司也趁势推出基于Opteron处理器的SunFireV20z服务器,并与AMD签定了长期合作计划。甚至于,原本是Itanium系列处理器开发者之一的惠普,也投向了Opteron的怀抱。中国惠普公司工业标准服务器总监杨诺础先生表示,英特尔仍旧是惠普最大的合作伙伴,但惠普与AMD的合作也是为了给消费者提供更多的选择。不过,尽管Opteron已经获得三大服务器厂商的支持,但是Opteron的征途仍旧遥远。英特尔在今年的春季IDF上宣布将于上半年推出64位Xeon处理器,Opteron与后发而至的64位Xeon之间的争斗最终会变成什么样的格局,仍旧是未知数。这,大概也是2004年服务器市场最大的谜团吧。
