Objective To study the effect of repeated exposure to negative pressure on the negative pressure endurance of human lower body and its relationship with cardiovascular function. Methods Ten healthy subjects were challenged one time daily for 8 minutes each for 8 consecutive days. The negative pressure was -50mmHg, and the endurance test was performed before and after exercise. Cardiac function was measured. Results The maximal duration of negative pressure (DNP) and cumulative stress index (CSI) after exercise were significantly higher than those before exercise (P <0.05) and cardiac function increased (P> 0.05). Conclusions Repeated exposure to the lower body negative pressure may increase the negative pressure endurance of the lower body. One of the reasons may be that it enhances the myocardial contractility, reduces the compliance of the peripheral blood vessels and improves the heart-to-heart arterial blood pressure.
