Objective: To investigate the expression of cathepsin D (Cath D) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its relationship with lymphatic vessel density. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of Cath D and lymphatic vessel density in 40 NSCLC patients. Results: There was a correlation between Cath D expression and clinical stage and lymph node metastasis in NSCLC, but not with histological type and differentiation degree. Lymphatic vessel density was correlated with clinical stage, differentiation and lymph node metastasis, But no correlation with pathological type. The density of lymphatics in CathD positive group was significantly higher than that in Cath D negative group. Conclusions: The expression of Cath D and lymphatic vessel density provide a basis for clinical evaluation of lung cancer invasion and metastasis and prognosis.
