In Costa Rica, natural conditions are less favorable for the construction of important reservoirs, and therefore it is necessary to build thermal power stations outside the Arenal Lake (Figure 1) in the northwest. As the Sigmundo Dam is 65 meters high, the Lake Arenal water level is likely to increase by 35 meters and store 2 × 10 ~ 9 meters ~ 3 of water flowing to the Atlantic shore.
