In Abu Dhabi, demand for fresh water for farmland, forests and green water for irrigation, business, services and domestic water is high. Most of the water needs are supplied from desalinated sea water, which is expensive to produce. The implementation of rational water management is the key. In order to meet the future water needs of the emirate, the water demand forecast should be used as a basis to formulate an expanded water production plan. It is crucial to expect a steady increase in water demand and provide a sustainable supply of fresh water. Emergencies and new desalination plant production cycle of at least 1 a may lead to interruption of water supply. Having an adequate water storage system helps to solve some of the problems associated with establishing a fresh water supply system. The emirate needs long-term storage of water equivalent to at least 1 year of freshwater demand. One way to increase storage capacity is to use manual production of groundwater through overproduction of desalinated and treated wastewater. At present, some pilot projects that utilize this technology are being implemented and the prospect of further application is extremely promising. Described the existing water resources and water demand in the emirate and water storage technologies that would be recharged by artificial recharge for future recovery.
