Plato had put forward a famous “cave metaphor ”: in the cave, people carrying a light, only to observe the shadow behind the things behind him. This is an assertion that the modern people in media parcels do not have the correct understanding of what is happening. More often than not, what we know from the media is not the world itself, but the shadow of the world because of the media’s reflection and portrayal of society It is not a reflection of the mirror but a variety of refraction of the reality of the real world from a variety of perspectives. Therefore, in order not to be fooled by the media kaleidoscope, in order to understand the international media phenomenon, we need a pair of “eyes”. The recently published book “Research in International Communication and Media”, edited by Cai Fen and published by Beijing Broadcasting Institute Press, provided some possible ways for us to recognize the truth outside the media world. This book contains seven outstanding Master’s Thesis papers from 1997 to 2001, which are either focused on the domestic and foreign news media
