“Huayu first ancient seal” is a “welfare seal.” This is what the collectors know. Why do these real letters known as the “welfare seal” it? Because the recipient is Shanghai Welfare Corporation. What the company did for more than 120 years ago is different now: some say “bakery houses” and others say that they operate in the import of light industrial products and clothing; and perhaps both. All these envelopes were sealed in English, but some were still written on the back of the envelope with the word “welfare”: it appears that the Shanghai Delivery Office wrote in Chinese only for the convenience of postal delivery.
