Objective: To observe the effect of orthodontic joint repair on occlusal relationship and masticatory function in children with dental defects and dental malformations. Methods: Ninety cases of dental defects with malocclusion were randomly divided into observation group and control group with 45 cases each. The control group received dentition repair, and the observation group received orthodontic treatment before the repair treatment. The repair effect, occlusal relationship and the improvement of masticatory function were compared between the two groups. Results: The excellent and good rate in the observation group was 97.8%, which was significantly higher than that in the control group (75.6%, P <0.05). After treatment, the maxillary protrusion and mandibular relative skull base tilt angle in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P <0.05). The maxillary and mandibular relative distensities in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P <0.05). After treatment, the bite force and chewing efficiency in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P <0.05). Conclusion: Orthodontic joint repair can help to correct the occlusion, improve masticatory function and improve the therapeutic effect.
