The names of places in our country contain specific historical and cultural and regional cultural connotations and show distinctive geographical features. It is not only reflected in the meaning of place names (words), but also reflected in the pronunciation of place names. If this point is neglected, some place names will be misread or misunderstood if they are read in standard Mandarin. On the other hand, indiscriminate attention to the square tone of the place name will be ignored regardless of the development of the ancient and modern voice Lead to the same consequences. The correct pronunciation of place names is an issue that can not be ignored in the promotion of Putonghua. The pronunciation of dialects is preserved in the pronunciation of many place names, such as “get” by the county of Hexu in Hebei Province, “huo” without reading “huai”, and “fort” without “bao” in place names Read “bu” (such as Shaanxi “Wubao”) or “pu” (such as “Wuli Fort (shop)”). This is particularly evident in the Cantonese dialect, such as “Fan” in Panyu, Guangdong Province, who does not read “fan” and “pan.” Another example is the use of two names of “Chung” and “Tai” in Hong Kong’s place names (eg “Quarry Bay”, “Kwai Chung”, “Tung Chung” and “Wong Nai Chung”; the location of the new airport in Hong Kong “ Chek Lap Kok ”), many people, even national broadcasters, misread these two words as“ yong ”and“ lie. ” There are two pronunciations of “Chung”, “Cihai” and “Modern Chinese Dictionary” (revised edition). The first reading reads “yong” and is used in ordinary words such as “emerging.”
